The mission of Women Build is to recruit, educate and nurture women to build—and advocate for—simple, decent and affordable houses in their communities.Who participates? Women Build is not about excluding men, it is about including women. Across the United States, women from all walks of life are working together to build Habitat homes. National Women Build Week challenges women to devote at least one day during the week to eliminate poverty housing. For May 5, the kickoff day, the goal is to have 75 percent women on the site. Why? Women possess all the capabilities needed to build Habitat homes, in fact, women crews have already built over 1,900 homes. Women Build projects provide an environment in which women can feel comfortable learning skills they might not otherwise have the opportunity to learn. How do I get involved? Attend ONE of the info sessions listed to the right. If you can’t make it, but would like to participate, you can contact Kelsey at [ email ] Where are we building? For National Women Build Week, Benton Habitat will be working on a special repair project at 309 Adelaide Drive, Philomath. The project is for the Thomas family and will involve re-siding the house. More details provided at the info sessions. How do I support a Women Build participant? You can donate online here. For cash or check you can mail the donation to: Benton Habitat for Humanity PO Box 1551 Corvallis, OR 97330 (Please include the participant's name) What type of construction work will you be doing? We will be taking all the exterior walls off, down to the framing and replacing insulation, sheathing, wrap, foam, windows and siding. You can see the tentative construction schedule here. Please remember, that on a construction site things do not always go exactly as planned, so be prepared to be flexible. | March 7 & 15, 2012 Info session 5:30-6:30 Market of Choice 922 NW Circle Blvd Upstairs meeting room April 3 & April 9, 2012 Info session 5:30-6:30 Market of Choice 922 NW Circle Blvd Upstairs meeting room April 21 or 28, 2012 Lowe's Training Clinics 1pm to 4pm Power tool safety & siding Lowe's of Salem 1930 Turner Road SE Salem, OR National Women Build Week Dates May 5, 2012 Women Build Kickoff 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM May 6-11, 2012 Build Week 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM May 12, 2012 Dedication Day 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM |
